I thought that you people might be interested in an essay on magnetic planetary influences I have written, which I will serialise in successive issues of exegesis, if it receives a positive response.

Could there be a common link between the planets and human life, health and disease, including crime and mental illness? Could this link be the force of magnetism? The following evidence Collected from various scientific sources suggests this may be so. Such evidence gives support to the Astrological theory that the planets affect human personality intelligence and life in various ways. Astrology has been given renewed scientific credibility since Dr Percy Seymour postulated the magnetic resonance theory of astrological causation, and Michel Gauquelin discovered a statistically significant relationship between planets positions in the diurnal circle and eminent professionals. 1 There is scientific evidence that the planets affect sunspot activity. Sunspot activity is magnetic, recurs in cycles and affects human health as well as the weather. The Moons' periodic motion affects human health by a mysterious mechanism which may well be magnetism. Both the Sun and Moon have an effect on the electromagnetic field of the earth causing regular variations. 2 3 Frank A Brown noted the effect of the Sun and Moon and magnetic activity on animal behaviour. Celestial effects have been noted on chemicals and metals by researchers such as Picardi. 4 Magnetism is now used by Modern medicine as a form of treatment for many health disorders, eg. musculo-skeletal, cancer, Parkinson's disease, depression, ms, etc. This leads us to suspect that magnetism is the central element of both life and health, as well as genetics and astrological effects. If human health is sensitive to the GMF then human character and behaviour may also be sensitive to the magnetic influence of the planets on the GMF. For what affects the vital may also affect the mental level in a more subtle way. The brain has a magnetic field as do other organs of the body, and so it is not inconceivable the magnetic relations of the stars and planets, Sun, Moon and Earth etc, may also affect intelligence and behaviour, and this is the assertion of Astrologers. Magnetism provides the linking element between macrocosm and microcosm, and may be the force that links soul to the body, resolving a mystery that has baffled many scientists and philosophers. Scientists have recently recorded the magnetic field surrounding the heart and the brain using biomagnetometers. Cohen in 1968 succeeded in recording the magnetic field produced by brain activity by using more advanced technology called the SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device). The field was found to be of the order of 0.5 pT (pico Tesla) or 5X10 -9 gauss. 4a

Magnetism is considered by Astronomers to be a basic condition necessary for the Creation of the Cosmos. It is intrinsic to the Sun and other Stars, and every living organism for every object has a magnetic field. Phylos has illustrated the creative agency of magnetism at the dawn of the universe in his book "An Earth Dweller Returns" and I refer the reader to that work for the illustration. 5 Magnetism is the creative force not only at the center of the universe but within the Sun itself. It is a fact that the Earth lies within the Magnetic field of the Sun, and this field is responsible for life on Earth as we know it. The transference of light and heat from the Sun to the earth is via the medium of the magnetic field. If we look inside the atom of a substance we find that it has electrons that orbit the nucleus. The electrons are negative and nucleus positive. This obeys the law of magnetism: opposites attract. The force of attraction within the cell and the atom is magnetism itself. The Sun is comparable to a nucleus, and the planets comparable to electrons. As above so below. The whole of creation has the same fundamental order form and shape, which reflects the power and energy of magnetism. The behaviour of nuclei differs from one system to another but magnetism is always involved in the process of intracellular communication as well as atomic and interplanetary causes and effects. Now the Suns magnetic field extends 100 million miles encompassing the earth. The earths magnetic field extends 94 million miles. 6 This gives us an idea of how far-reaching and penetrating magnetism really is. The earth has a magnetosphere surrounding it which is affected by the solar wind and solar flares. The solar wind compresses the magnetosphere and causes radiation to occur at the North Pole (The Aurora Borealis). I shall later present evidence that the frequency of flares and sunspot activity is linked to weather patterns, animal and human behaviour and sexual cycles. Life on earth is likely to have been a result of geomagnetic forces. All living organisms as well as humans are products of the earth's natural magnetic environment. Many living organisms are dependent on geomagnetic fields for survival and use magnetism in navigation and locating food and prey. Geomagnetic influences such as magnetic storms have been found to have a profound effect on mental and physical health particularly as they affect the body's biorhythms. Geomagnetic storms are due to an increase in charged particles following solar flares lasting several hours effecting the globe but varying according to the region. Solar flares are bursts of gaseous material, high energy particles that influence the ionosphere, these changes influence magnetic fields on earth
