Subject: Web Site has moved

Just a quick note. I've moved all of the past issues to my new web site at:

http://www3.pgh.net/~fgk/exegesis/exegesis.html

Thanks to Joanna for providing space at her site, Astrological Literature, which, incidentally, is located at:

http://www.nwlink.com/~jmashmun/index.html

And I should also mention Dermod's Metalog site at:

http://www.astrologer.com/

which is a wonderful resource for astrology on the net and contains links to hundreds, if not thousands, of astrology sites.

Subject: Introduction

Hello everybody!

My name is Denis Daost. I started participating in alt.astrology in February (after "lurking" for 4 months), but soon found out it wasn't the forum for discussing astrology I'd expected. I posted a couple of (IMHO) "very interesting" articles, but the response was very poor. Then I unintentionally got involved in a "personal flame-war" with a couple of persons. It started when I questioned the validity of Solar charts, and now I can't post anything without getting flamed.

A couple of e-mail friends I met in alt.astrology suggested I could try some mailing lists and I subscribed to one of them (Metalog's Psyche). However, it has been quite "boring" during the month I've been participating. I discoved this mailing list some weeks ago, after a tip from one of the participators here. Hopefully, I'll be able to discuss a lot of astrology without getting involved in flame-wars.

Some personal information...

I'm a Swedish guy who has been into astrology since 1986. I'm quite young (I'll be 25 on July 7), but I don't think that's a disadvantage. I think younger people are more open to new theories and ideas - at least I was. I also started studying astrology while still being in school, which means I could do the "12 o'clock" charts for all of my schoolmates and categorizing them according to signs and aspects. There's a thread in a.a right now about Saturn in Gemini. I wonder if these people think about the fact that the placement is in the charts for most people born in e.g. 1971-72. Some people write things like "Well, I have Saturn in Gemini and as a child I was much more serious minded than most people in my age"!! :-)

I'm quite well-educated (at least academically) and somewhat trained in statistics and research. Among some other things, I have a 3-year education in Systems Analysis. Astrology is not very accepted in my surroundings so I live some form of "double-life". I'm really confused about my career. Should I work with computers (programmer, systems developer, etc) or should I deal with something like psychology or astrology? At the moment I'm unemployed, although I'll begin a temporary (6 months) work on May 28.

I've read all the earlier issues in this mailing list, except for #11 to #15 (I do have #16 to#18) which I hope soon will be found on the Exegesis homepage. So far I'm very pleased with what has been posted. Although I believe my english is fairly good, it's often a problem finding the most suitable words for something. This is a bit frustrating sometimes. Of course I also sometimes run into some unfamiliar words, especially in the dialogue that has been going on between Francis and Joanna (no critisism!!).

I'm planning on responding to some of the postings made so far. I have nothing against a slow pace. This means it will might take some week(s) before I'll be able to respond to postings (including those who may be directed directly towards me). I want to be as thorough as possible, and I usually wait some day before posting my emails. Sometimes I respond quickly, though.

I have several topics I want to bring into discussion, like

* "comptrans", the idea of making a composite chart between the transiting planets and ones natal planets in order to find out more about an event. I've used this technique/method for more than 6-8 years (I don't recall) and it seems to work at least as well as the transits. I've never heard of anyone else using the method, but assume there might people out there who does.

* Orbs in natal charts, synastry, composite charts, transits, "comptrans". There seems to be a discussion already about this.

* The validity of Solar charts. (Yeah, I still want to discuss this subject in a reasonable and non-atacking way.)

* RESEARCH. Are there databases available for free, so that I can do my own research? There are lots of things to make research about.

*I think astrology have reached a point where it's absolutely necessary to find out which theories (if any) that works, and which don't. Otherwise we easily may end up in a situation in which everything (=nothing) can be read from a chart.

If anyone is interested in starting a dialogue on any of these topics you are very welcome. Otherwise I'll save them until later and bring them up one at the time. I'll proably have enough to catch up with as it is now.

Finally, my emails sometimes gets quite long. There's so much to write. I usually delete the majority of what I've written before sending it to the person/newsgroup/mailing list intended.

Well, this should be enough for now. Hope I didn't bore you...

Best regards, Denis
